Celebrating The Success of Our People – Awards Ceremony 2020

We all know that a pre-requisite for ensuring staff meet or exceed goals is to ensure that they are respected by their employer, fellow colleagues and are recognised by the business when they 'go the extra mile'.

Thomas Hardie Commercials Ltd wanted to ensure that staff were recognised and rewarded in some way, which is why back in 2014 we introduced our very first Staff Awards event. Since its introduction the event has gone from strength to strength, with nominations on the increase year on year.

All employees are given the opportunity to nominate any staff member(s) or team(s) whom they feel demonstrated excellence and are considered a worthy recipient or recipients of one of our prestigious Awards.

Those shortlisted were invited to attend a special, inaugural event held at Kilhey Court Wigan on Thursday 5th March 2020, attended by Robert Grozdanovski, Managing Director for Volvo Group UK & Ireland. The event coincided with our 35th anniversary, which made the event even more special.

Live music filled Kilhey Court as attendees were treated to the melodic sounds of the Haslingdon Concert Band, headed up by Jim Savage our Quality Health & Safety Manager.  Music to suit all genres was impressively played and our Managing Director, Jim Murray tried his hand at conducting during a rendition of Sweet Caroline and did an exemplary job we're reliably informed.

In addition, we were fortunate to secure a special guest and motivational speaker, Andy Grant an ex Royal Marine who was injured by an IED and subsequently became medically discharged and forced to face life as an amputee. Andy provided an insight into his life, the challenges, but more importantly he explained how he overcame them. He delivered an open and honest account of his life and described how life will inadvertently put you in all kinds of challenging situations, however, these need not determine us as a person – it’s how we react to those challenges. Andy received a standing ovation from attendees, clearly moved by his inspirational speech and impressed by his fortitude.
