Crossroads Truck & Bus opens new energy-efficient depot in Scunthorpe

Volvo distributor unveils sustainable facility for future generations.

Crossroads Truck & Bus has opened a new energy-efficient depot in Scunthorpe.

The Volvo truck & bus dealer covering the Yorkshire and Lincolnshire region says the new facility will secure a sustainable environment for future generations.

The depot in Lysaghts Way was opened by Christian Coolsaet, Managing Director, Volvo Trucks UK & Ireland.

As part of the official opening ceremony, Crossroads hosted a customer ride and drive event with the Volvo FH Aero truck range which also showcased the latest electrified truck line up.

Ian Middleton, Managing Director of Crossroads said: “We are very proud of our long association with the Lincolnshire area, and we're pleased this will continue for many years to come. Our depot in Scunthorpe has been operating since 1999, firstly located on Midland Road, before moving to Grange Lane North in 2002”.

“We were delighted that the executive board of Volvo Trucks and some of our customers were able to join us for the official opening, and I would like to thank everybody across the region and our staff, past and present, for their unwavering support over the years”.

The new depot has a prime location just off the M181, the new state-of-the-art dealership has been purpose built with sustainability in mind. Scoring an A-rating for energy performance, the build is inclusive of solar power generation, electric vehicle charging, female and male washrooms, 4 double bays, certified tacho centre and recently approved ATF lane.

Mr Coolsaet said: “The dealership’s proximity to the Port of Immingham – the largest in the UK by tonnage – makes this a strategically key area for freight traffic and means a significant number of Volvo customers will benefit from this new facility. Crossroads has done a terrific job in bringing the project to life – it’s the perfect example of what a modern truck dealership needs to be, and will ensure the site continues to attract and retain the very best talent.”

As part of the official ceremony Ian Middleton and Christian Coolsaet acknowledged Peter Ingram’s 61 years’ service with the company. Ian Middleton Said “Peter is retiring in August, and we wanted to recognise what a remarkable milestone this is. Peter’s loyalty and commitment to Crossroads has been outstanding, the knowledge that he has passed onto many generations of apprentices has been tremendous, Peter is a fantastic HGV Technician and very much part of the Crossroads furniture”.

Crossroads has supported many local families with employment over subsequent generations and now operates eight depots throughout Yorkshire and Lincolnshire: Birstall, Boroughbridge, Lincoln, Normanton, Hull, Rotherham, Scunthorpe, and Stallingborough.
