To build up its fleet in response to a continued growth in business, West Midlands-based quarrying company NRS Ltd. has taken delivery of two Volvo FMX tippers.

This latest Volvo purchase by NRS Ltd. rounds up a total of 16 vehicles ordered from Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia in the past two and a half years.

The new tippers are powered by Volvo’s 13-litre engines, producing 460hp and 2,300Nm of torque. With safety in mind, both trucks are fitted with a five-camera visibility package in addition to a side scan system with left-turn warning technology.

While one of the FMX’s is a straight fleet replacement, the other is an additional investment to help meet the company’s extra workload. According to Phil Marshall, Haulage Operations Manager at NRS, the specification chosen has proven a hit, “The last four trucks we’ve bought have been specified with higher powered engines, which are working out to be more economical and we’ve just ordered two Volvo FMX’s with 500hp engines, due to those increased fuel efficiencies. Tyre wear rates have also reduced, because we use super singles on the front. It’s a combination that we’ll continue when looking at new vehicles, because we can really see the benefits.

Phil continues, “We ran Volvos a long time ago and now we’ve returned to the FMX range because it just seems to work for us. We’ve always found Volvo’s to be reliable trucks, they look good and meet all of our needs and requirements. Particular highlights are the I-Shift gearbox and the aftercare support we get from Volvo’s Coventry dealerpoint, which is second to none.”

Founded in 2005 by Mark Ketcher, the NRS brand has grown to manage four quarries. NRS also runs some of the largest inert tipping facilities, quarrying and recycling aggregate production operations in The Midlands. The 23-strong predominantly Volvo fleet ranges from tippers to concrete mixers.
