14 FMX rigids lead a new move to Volvo Trucks for Keltbray Group
Keltbray Group has taken delivery of 14 new Volvo FMX rigids. Three Volvo FH tractor units and one FH16 four axle heavy haulage tractor unit will soon follow this group.

Supplied by Tim Atkins, Sales Manager at Volvo Truck and Bus Centre London, the FMX fleet is all powered by Volvo D11K engines with a maximum power output of 410hp. The Day Cab-equipped 5,100mm wheelbase rigids also feature 12-speed I-Shift automated transmission systems and Extra-High chassis with B Ride suspension systems. 13 of the Volvo FMX tippers are fitted with Boweld steel tipper bodies, whilst the sole hook-lift truck carries Hyva gear.

FORS Gold-accredited for the last seven years, Keltbray Group has opted for Volvo’s additional lower passenger door glazing, in addition to side under-run panels and state-of-the-art camera / side scan systems.

Keltbray Group also opted for five-year Volvo Gold Service Contracts, which will be carried out at the Enfield and Hayes dealerpoints of Volvo Truck and Bus Centre London. “We have arranged overnight servicing to maximise our vehicle uptime and productivity,” notes Terry Good, Head of Haulage Operations at Keltbray Group, adding “Both dealerpoints will also collect the trucks and deliver them back in the morning. That assists our operations substantially.”

“The 14 FMXs are our first Volvo trucks and we’ve another four FH tractor units on order for May and June, in addition to one FM rigid plant vehicle. Prior to ordering, we made good use of a Volvo demonstration vehicle and six of our drivers each took it out for a half day. Their feedback was extremely positive. Volvo is a premium brand and the FMX tippers will be used for muckaway works and aggregate transport, with the majority of works being carried out in Central London,” Terry explains.

The new Volvo trucks join a fleet of 85 heavy vehicles in Keltbray Group that operate across a wide area of the UK.

“The vehicle ordering and delivery process with Tim Atkins was spot on. It’s early days yet but the FMXs are performing well and our anticipated vehicle retention period is five years. Working in London means the vehicles will only average around 60,000 miles per year and the Euro-6 Volvos also meet all the required FORS noise assessments,” Terry concludes.
