About the programme 

Heavy Vehicle Advanced Apprenticeship Programme - Up To 4 Years

In this programme, all aspects of heavy vehicle technology are embedded in this dedicated programme focusing on electronics, diagnostics and computer management systems:

-You will spend most of your time working in the dealership gaining hands-on experience and on the job training under the supervision of a trained mentor.

 

-During your 15 two-week periods of residential training at the Volvo Truck & Bus Training Academy, you will cover topics such as engines, transmissions and learn about the latest electronic diagnostic techniques covering all vehicle systems.

Aftersales Advanced Apprenticeship Programme - 2 Years

Focusing on stock management, product and motor vehicle knowledge, effective customer service techniques with the ability to identify customer needs and exceed expectations:

·You will spend most of your time working in the dealership and learning on the job - under the supervision of a trained mentor.

 

·You will also receive 10 weeks in-depth residential training at the Volvo Truck & Bus Training Academy.

Based at Stephenson College in Coalville, Leicestershire, the workshops are fully-equipped with latest Volvo vehicles and most up-to-date equipment and tools to give you a cutting-edge training programme. You’ll also have access to various facilities including two campus restaurants, a fully-equipped fitness suite and an on-site hairdressers. Lecturers always have the latest knowledge on our products to enhance your training experience.

Qualifications and Accreditation

On successfully completing the Volvo Apprentice Programme, you will have gained national qualifications recognised throughout the automotive industry:

 

  • Heavy Vehicle Apprenticeship: Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician (ST0068\AP02)
  • Aftersales Apprenticeship: Customer Service Practitioner Level 2 & Customer service Specialist Level 3 with IMI Accreditation Parts

 

In addition, Volvo holds an event where you and your family will be invited to a special graduation day to receive your certificates and possibly a special merit award at the end of your apprenticeship.

Frequently asked questions

In order to gain a place on the Apprenticeship programme, you must be sponsored by a Volvo dealership local to your home. Here, you will be a full time employee of the dealer from day one and become part of the technical/parts team while you train.

You will carry out your training through fifteen two-week periods on the HGV Programme and ten one-week periods on the Parts Programme at the bespoke Volvo Training Academy, based at Stephenson College in Coalville, Leicestershire. The centre is equipped with the latest Volvo vehicles and you will have use of the most up to date equipment and tools. You will also be trained by Volvo time served master technicians, with the latest Volvo knowledge.

The Volvo Training Academy is located at Stephenson College in Coalville, Leicestershire. It is a modern professional college with great facilities such as an on- site health and fitness suite and a beauty salon. Yes. All apprentices who are successful in gaining a position at a Volvo dealership will be contracted and paid as a full time employee with that dealer.

You will carry out your training through fifteen two-week periods at the bespoke Volvo Training Academy, based at Stephenson College in Coalville, Leicestershire. You will study a Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and repair or Parts. The duration of these qualifications will be three years for HGV or 2 years for Parts. Your fourth year on the HGV Apprenticeship will be spent developing your skills at your dealer-point. At the end of your fourth year, you will become a fully qualified member of Volvo Trucks. Both the above qualifications are recognised and highly valued throughout the motor industry.

Attendance at Stephenson College will be on a block release basis. Apprentices’ will be required to attend Stephenson College on a two-week block for HGV or one-week block for Parts every six weeks. Accommodation and travel cost(s) will be covered by the company. Apprentices stay at the college Monday-Thursday night and return home for the weekends. 

Apprentices will stay with local hosts provided by Stephenson College on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis only. Accommodation is local to the college and has been carefully vetted for suitability. All relevant DBS checks have also been done by the college. All hosts are very used to having apprentices stay. Apprentices will stay in accommodation with at least one other apprentice. 

Your travel arrangements will be arranged in advance by your dealer-point, and depending on where your dealer-point is based, you may be travelling by car, bus, train or air.

Individuals are then expected to make their own way to Stephenson College on a Monday morning.

Driving
If apprentices choose to drive to college you should ensure that their insurance covers for Business use. Parking is available at the college free of charge.

Air
The nearest airport is East Midlands Airport. Flights are pre booked in advance prior to your block. A free bus will be available to pick apprentices from outside arrivals at EMA.

Train
The nearest train station to the college is Leicester. Train travel will be booked in advance through the company. A free bus is available every Monday morning to collect apprentices from the train station at 10:30am. It will also take apprentices back to the station on Friday afternoon at 12:00pm.

Apprentices may choose to drive to their local accommodation each day. Alternatively there is a free college bus that will pick apprentices up in the morning and drop them off in the afternoon.

Mentoring/Buddy Scheme – Volvo provides continuous support to their apprentices to ensure that they receive the best experience possible and develop to the best of their ability at every opportunity.

State of the art facilities - At our Volvo Training Academy we have our own bespoke workshops to ensure we can replicate the workshop environment experienced in the network. 

Expert Lecturers – Each of our Volvo Lecturers have all previously been a Volvo Technician, or experienced our industry, therefore they truly understand how apprentices need to develop and assist by delivering “Award-Winning” training.

Salary – Our apprenticeship(s) give apprentices the opportunity to earn whilst you are learning.
