Our Environmental Commitment
The Volvo Trucks approach to environmental care springs from a view of Nature as something highly positive and worth protecting - a view we believe is connected to our Scandinavian heritage.
Consequently, we have always defined progress in human terms: it's not just about selling more trucks, but selling trucks that limit the environmental impact.
We have a long tradition of taking care of environmental issues. Our first environmental policy was developed as early as in 1972, in conjunction with the UN's first conference on the environment, and since the early 1990s, environmental care is one of our core values and guiding principles.
But our environmental commitment doesn't stay on the desk. We constantly strive to improve energy efficiency in our own operations. And we currently plan for CO2 emission free production in all of our plants. In parallel we continue to develop ever more efficient and sustainable transport solutions to our customers.
By doing all this we carefully follow the Volvo Group's ambitious environmental policy.
The measure of quality
A truck must be able to handle important transport assignments 24 hours a day. It has to be reliable: reliability is the measure of quality in trucks. And reliability equals uptime.
This view on quality is our guiding principle when we build a Volvo truck, from no-tools preventive maintenance to continuous materials testing, and from dealer testing to global parts resourcing. It is the outcome of quality in the entire development chain - design, engineering, materials, manufacturing, sales, and aftermarket services.
In the end, this helps keep your Volvo truck reliable, proven by your bottom line and the high resale value a few years down the line.
Making the world a safer place
Some people view safety as protecting drivers in an emergency. That is, however, only one part of the overall picture.
Of course, the safety of a Volvo truck is continuously and meticulously tested – in our laboratories, on test tracks and out on the roads where the trucks are constantly in use.
However the fact that we have always managed to be at the front line in safety work is not only thanks to our pioneering safety innovations. It’s because our safety concept has evolved to encompass safety in a broader context: it comprises personal, family and business values as well.
In our view, safety is about people, about all of us, about you. As our founders put it, “An automobile carries, and is driven by, people. Safety is and must be the basic principle in all design work”.
When we start to design a Volvo truck we approach safety from two major perspectives - Preventing Accidents and Reducing Injuries.
